What Are Crypto Prediction Markets?
Crypto prediction markets let you trade on whether a cryptocurrency will be above or below a specific price at a specific time. Instead of buying BTC directly, you buy shares that pay $1.00 if your prediction is correct.
For example: "Will BTC close above $98,500 at 2:15 PM UTC?" — you buy YES if you think it will, or NO if you think it won't. Each share costs between $0.01 and $0.99, and winners receive $1.00.
Available Markets
Polyblock offers crypto prediction markets across four major assets:
Bitcoin (BTC)
The most liquid crypto prediction market. High volume, tight spreads, and consistent price action make BTC the go-to for most traders.
Ethereum (ETH)
ETH markets often move in correlation with BTC but offer unique opportunities during ETH-specific catalysts and network events.
Solana (SOL)
Higher volatility than BTC/ETH — SOL markets offer bigger swings and more extreme mispricings for aggressive traders.
Ripple (XRP)
XRP markets can be driven by regulatory news and legal developments, creating unique trading opportunities.
5-Minute, 15-Minute & 1-Hour Markets
Polymarket offers three crypto market timeframes. 5-minute (5M) is the newest — currently Bitcoin only. For a full guide on how to trade 5m Polymarkets and automate them on Polyblock, see Polymarket 5-minute (5M) crypto markets. Below we cover all timeframes:
5-Minute (5M) Markets — BTC only
- Fastest resolution — Markets resolve every 5 minutes. Maximum frequency for scalping and automation.
- BTC only — Polymarket launched 5M for Bitcoin; other assets may follow.
- Best for — Automated strategies, scalpers, and high-frequency trading via Polyblock Playground.
15-Minute Markets
- Fast resolution — Markets resolve every 15 minutes, allowing rapid compounding.
- Higher frequency — More trading opportunities per day — up to 96 markets daily.
- Momentum-driven — Short-term price momentum is the dominant factor.
- Best for — Active traders, scalpers, and automated strategies.
1-Hour Markets
- More time to analyse — Longer timeframe gives you more data points for decision-making.
- Larger price moves — Prices can move more in an hour, creating bigger mispricings.
- Trend-following works — Technical indicators like MACD are more reliable on hourly data.
- Best for — Swing traders, indicator-based strategies, and less active traders.
How Crypto Markets Resolve
- 1Strike price is set
Each market has a specific price level (e.g., "BTC above $98,500") and resolution time.
- 2Trading happens
Traders buy YES and NO shares based on their predictions. Prices fluctuate with demand.
- 3Resolution time arrives
At the exact resolution timestamp, the actual crypto price is checked.
- 4Payouts are distributed
If BTC is above $98,500, YES shares pay $1.00. If below, NO shares pay $1.00.
Why Trade Crypto Predictions Instead of Spot?
No Liquidation Risk
Unlike leveraged futures, your max loss is the share price. No margin calls, no liquidation cascades.
Defined Payoff
Every trade has a clear binary outcome. You know your exact potential profit and loss before entering.
Short Timeframes
5-minute, 15-minute and 1-hour resolution means you're never stuck in a position overnight.
Profit in Any Direction
Buy YES for bullish bets, NO for bearish. Equally easy to profit from up or down moves.
Strategies for Crypto Markets
Different crypto assets and timeframes suit different strategies:
- BTC 5-minute — Fastest timeframe — automate with Playground or scalp in the terminal. See our <InfoInternalLink href="/info/guides/polymarket-5-minute-markets">5M guide</InfoInternalLink>.
- BTC 15-minute — Best for momentum and RSI-based strategies. BTC has the most liquidity and tightest spreads.
- ETH 1-hour — Good for MACD crossover strategies. ETH trends are more pronounced on hourly timeframes.
- SOL 15-minute — High volatility makes SOL ideal for mean-reversion strategies when RSI hits extremes.
- Multi-asset rotation — Automate rotation between assets based on which shows the strongest signal at any given time.
